Charles Weinberg emigrated about 1853 to America. There he married his wife who was from Hesse, Germany. The family lived in Du Quoin, Perry Co., Illinois.
Charles was the second son. The eldest son obviously stayed in Malk, while Charles and later also his younger brothers Joachim and Johann Joachim Friedrich
and his halfbrothers Johann Peter Wilhelm and Carl Ludwig Heinrich emigrated.
2.
Joe Weinberg had been working as a farmhand in Malk: Later he went to Hamburg and worked as construction worker, carpenter and brick layer. During his military service at the German Navy he learned blacksmith and general repair work on sail boats. So he hired on a passenger boat.
The family history tells that his eldest daughter Minnie was born on the Atlantic in 1862. The captain raised the U.S. flag so that she was born an American citizen. The (illegitimate) birth was recorded in Menkendorf near Conow, anyhow!
In May 1864 the young family boarded the "Neckar", with destination Quebec.
