Scheper of Laupin

In 1882 the old Häusler farmer JOHANN Hinrich Scheper travelled to America. He was 78 years old when he arrived in New York on July 26th, 1882 together with other families of the parish (Wahler and Timmermann) with ship "Wieland". What was the reason that the old man left his home village at such old age? Had some of his children emigrated before? I could not find any hint yet.

Johann Scheper was born in Laupin in 1803. His parents were Hauswirt farmer Hans Jürgen Scheper and his wifeAnna Maria Lüthe from Laupin, farm # 3. Many years he lived with his family as Einwohner in Laupin. Later he had a Häusler farm.
1832 he married Catharina Maria Hanne Baack, b. 1809 in Tewswoos (daughter of a Buedner farmer). She died 1871. The couple had 8 children, one of them stillborn, four died as young children.
