My husband's ancestors from his father's side are from East Prussia.

Because the research is more complicated I am still at the beginning.
My father-in-law's parents lived in Koenigsberg. In 1944 his father who was at the army
and stationed in Koenigsberg sent away his wife and his two little sons. They travelled west
pretending to go on vacation. After staying on the island of Ruegen they moved further west and finally
came to Celle, a small town in Niedersachsen.
My husband's grandfather was missed since the last battle in Koenigsberg. He probably died there or later
in a Russian prisoner's camp. The family never heard of him again.
