Carl Bergmann

Carl Bergmann was called "Voje" at his confirmation but later changed his name to "Bergmann". We do not know when he went to England. In London he worked as a sugar baker. We also do not know when his wife, Anna Wellbrock, came to London.
The family left England on ship "Whirlwind" on June 7th 1862 and reached Moreton Bay, Australia, on September 15th 1862.

The family settled in Jeebropilly County of Churchill near Ebenezer, Queensland, and bought farmland for cattle breeding.
Three years after the death of his wife Carl Bergmann married Eliza Clara Aston who was born in Australia in 1846. She had been married twice before.
Five of Bergmann's six children married. The youngest son Alfred married Louisa Grant, a daughter of his stepmother Clara Aston from her first marriage.

Thank you to Noel Bergmann for all information about this family and for the picture.
